Emergence of Taiwan?

China has one more reason to reclaim Taiwan - Badminton.

After the upset of Koo and Tan in the hands of a Taiwanese pair, this time, it is Fairuzizuan and Zakry who got conquered in the hands of another Taiwanese pair. And possibly, Choong and Lee might even get defeated by the master of Koo and Tan.

Apart from its disputed status and rowdy parliaments, personally, I have not paid much attention to this small island near the coast of China. Taiwan has not done particularly well in Badminton, Soccer, Football, well, anything. Apart from the rare Fung Permadi, rarely you will see a Taiwanese athlete on a podium.

Now with the breakthrough performance in Guangzhou, can Taiwan emerge as the new superpower in badminton? Can more Fung Permadi-s be produced?

This certainly mixes things up the badminton situation!

fung permadi was originally from indonesia... strictly speaking, if any real badminton star were to emerge from taiwan, we can't say that we're getting another "fung permadi", if you get what i mean...

i agree wth anonymous:p a lot blames KKK/TBH defeat on fatigue...but they r a pair of youngsters and CTF/LWW r relatively veteran. i don't know about law of nature very much but as far as i know, older persons need more time to recover from physically exhausting matches rather than younger ones. some may argue that it could be mental exhaustion, still i would think as world no #1, they should be accustomed to pressures by now. i know i sound like im not making any stand whatsoever, but i just hope that our beloved coach will be able to find some solution to this problem. mental weakness when meeting new and younger pairs should not be a problem for top pair such as world no 1's. how could it be that our veteran pair were able to defeat the taipei pair with such ease? KKK/TBH should build up on their mental strength. thats all i think they should do:)

taiwan's badminton has always been excellent, but its just been overshadowed by the bigger powerhouses. The WS and WD team are especially strong. Chien/Cheng are consistently in the Top 5 rankings and have won many tournaments. all of your ignorant comments above amuse me. since when was it shameful to lose to Taiwan? and to the writer of the blog, do your research. Taiwan is strong in baseball, judo, archery, etc. We've even had Olympic medals.
